Digestive enzymes break down macromolecules in the food you eat into their smaller building blocks, in order to facilitate their absorption by the body. 

  • Amylase, produced in the mouth, breaks down large starch molecules into smaller sugar molecules.
  • Pepsin, produced in the stomach. starts the process of breaking down protein to Amino Acid building blocks
  • Trypsin, produced in the pancreas and is located in the small intestine, continues the breakdown process of protein
  • Lipase, produced in the mouth, pancreas and small intestines. breaks down fat in the food
