Empathy towards a sufferer is often lacking unless one has experienced allergy symptoms that may include:

  • sneezing and an itchy, runny or blocked nose (allergic rhinitis)
  • itchy, red, watering eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
  • wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and a cough
  • a raised, itchy, red rash (hives/welts)
  • swollen lips, tongue, eyes or face (IgE based allergy such as to peanuts)
  • tummy pain, feeling sick, vomiting or diarrhoea (IgE Allergy or IgG sensitivity to certain foods such as cow Dairy, Eggs, Corn or beef)

Some allergy symptoms overlap with flu symptoms (Sneezing, runny nose, facial pain, postnasal drip, and itchy eyes) but the cause is different. Flu (abbreviation for Influenza) symptoms (fever, fatigue, cough and body aches) are caused by a viral infection (over 100 viruses cause flu's including Influenza A,B,C, Corona virus). The majority of influenza viral flu's usually do not cause shortness of breath unless they have progressed to a pneumonia as compared with Corona Virus which causes early symptoms of shortness of breath and dry cough.
